I recently received two Clarins products to review from Beauty Bulletin and these are my thoughts on the Joli Rouge Lipstick and the Blush Prodige illuminating cheek color.
Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick (#749 Bubblegum Pink)
I have had a love affair with the French brand Clarins for many years and this lipstick did not disappoint. I have had my eye on the Joli Rouge line since it came out but would personally probably not have bought this pink shade in particular because of it’s very bright nature and I tend to stick to the more nude tones. Well as it turns out I am in fact a pink lipstick girl and this lipstick surely says that.
First impressions on the packaging:
Clarins make-up, comes in the signature Clarins red packaging. It is very chic and stylish. The Lipstick bullet is a very stylish gold tube with a little bit of special detail on the lid. It is a nice size and looks very attractive. I wouldn’t mind whipping it out at a meeting for a quick touch up if needed.
My thoughts on the Shade:
It is just the most gorgeous, bright, bold summery pink shade. It really does pack a punch. How much of it you apply though is up to you. I have worn it as more of a lip stain with some gloss and also with fully lined lips and one or two applications of the product to give a really great WOW lip. None of the photo’s I took really did justice to the stunning color though. I swatched it first and the color pay off is amazing.
Do I love this lipstick?:
Well this particular one is the long-wearing hydration formula. It has a satin finish and the most gorgeous smell. It smells like sweets and flowers together. The scent doesn’t remain on your lips and you don’t taste the smell which is something I hate. It’s the kind of lipstick that gives you a happy moment when you apply it. I find the shape of the bullet to be very comfortable and it delivers a very precise application. It glides on beautifully and leaves a lovely softness and shine behind. I found it very long-lasting and kept my lips beautifully hydrated. Another thing I really loved is the fact that it doesn’t bleed at all so you don’t need a lip liner if you don’t want to use one. I really do love it and I would buy it again in a different color to add to my collection.
Effectiveness and Pricing.
I really found it long wearing and you don’t need a lot to get a nice look. I find the pricing very attractive for a high-end lipstick like this. R300 is very affordable for something that will last you a good while.
Active ingredients as per Clarins marketing is:
New Organic marsh samphire extract – A moisturizing plant active ingredient for instant and long-lasting lip colour
Maxi Lip – Restructures and rehydrates lips. Lips are supple and well moisturised
Mango Butter – Restores the skin barrier for repaired nourished lips that are protected against dehydration and promotes shine
Ceramidone – Improved regulation of moisturization
Tocopherol Acetate – Lips are protected, they remain soft supple and smooth.
Overall I am really impressed with this lipstick. I will definately be adding another one to my own collection soon.
Clarins Blush Prodige Illuminating cheek color (#07 Tawny Pink)
I have never been very excited about using blush up until recently where I actually came to realise the importance of it. It was also only recently that I started successfully applying a bronzer. I only really have two blush palettes at home and they are not very high quality products. So I was quite excited to receive this gorgeous palette only to discover it actually could double up as a pretty good bronzer too.
First impressions on the packaging:
This is a really stylish compact. It is a beautiful gold color and opens to reveal a beautiful mirror and a gorgeous mosaic of different shades/hues of the Tawny Pink. It also houses a great little travel blusher applicator brush. I am not too fond of these types of brushes but they are handy if you are out and about and they do really finish off the packaging. When first looking at the compact you associate it imediately with style and beauty.
My thoughts on the shade:
I am not usually one to go for the tawny or browner shades although I am technically and “autumn” I tend to stick with the pinker shades. However I found this particlular shade to be more on the pinker side and less brown. I really like the naturally flushed finish it gives.
Do I love this blush?:
I really am quite obsessed with this little thing of joy. I have never been quite as excited about trying out a new make-up look. It is a lovely silky, lightweight powder blush formula and I love that this little compact houses the most beautiful combination of iridescent shades and finishes, to really enhance your complexions natural radiance and beauty. The matte shades sculpts while the iridescent shades highlight the natural contours of the face. This really is a bang for your buck product because you basically get two uses out of it. A stunning cheek color and a light contouring feature. I love that it contains natural plant extracts and minerals too. It really does give you a very healthy looking glow but never looks “too much”. I also find that it is very build-able and blends extremely well.
Effectiveness and pricing:
This formula is very long-wearing. I work a full day and have not needed to touch up my applications at all. It looks as fresh in the evening as it did in the morning even-though my CC cream has worn off ages before. I still have color on my cheeks which is great. The application is a breeze with very little blending required. The price of this product is really very affordable for a great quality high-end product like this. It retails for R360 and is available at most outlets like Red square, Truworths, Dischem and Foschini, Woolworths or online at Clarins.
- Mineral pigments and plant extracts for a new generation texture
- Bamboo Powder and Tomato Extract : Ensure a radiant, healthy glow
Well that’s it for my review on these two great make-up products. I loved both of these products very much. I wouldn’t hesitate to add any more of the colors of the two lines into my own collection. These are both very well worth the purchase if you decide to buy.
