2016 has finally arrived, and little did I realize it would come so quickly. I find that funny now, as I remember that as young teens, my friends and I would calculate in jest, as to when we would be “old” and turn 40, and I could never have guessed that before I could blink, I would be there, and actually be extremely excited for it. In those years we made fun of the “old people” and now I am one of them.
I once had a bucket list of things I wanted to do or achieve before I turned 40. Problem is I have probably been able only to tick off about 10% of that list. The list is really quite long and included things like Marriage, Children, Travel, Career, financial freedom, Assets etc. I won’t go into much more detail on the matter except to say that I thought that 25 days before D-day I would feel a little more cut up about it but I don’t. I think one of the main reasons for this is that I am actually pretty darn happy, right where I am!
I am excited mostly about the impending possibilities that turning 40 means for me. I love that I had my kids quite close together so that at this stage I am already starting to see a light at the end of the very busy tunnel, and that I can see myself enjoying more of MYSELF too. I really don’t want to make this a deep and intense post about my midlife revelations or anything remotely mid-life crisis like. I really just wanted to share, that as it stands I really am sincerely happy about where I find myself as the big Four-OH approaches.
Last year quite a few bloggers did Birthday wish lists, and seeing as though this is a year of new things for me, I thought I would do the one thing that I have never done in my entire life of birthdays, and display my list of things I really would love to call my own. I say I have never done it before, because a list birthday wants is something I have not done, simply for the fact that I never ever know what to ask for or sometimes simply just feel to shy to ask for anything more than bath goodies or chocolates. So this year I decided to put it out there in the Universe and make my desires known. I don’t really care if anybody sees it, or if I end up owning anything on it, but I will have atleast gone as far as to verbalise that I actually do have desires for myself that aren’t run of the mill generic things.
One of the “items” that may have been on my list , has now found his way right into my home and heart. I therefore can gladly report that my husband and kids gave me my beautiful Yorkshire Terrier boy as my 40th Birthday gift and if nothing else, he is enough.
I have a few “Brand loves” at the moment and there are a couple of items from some that I thought I could share with you. The brands I am loving are The Skin Creamery, Zana Products, Yankee Candless, Mimco at Woolworths, Poetry, Colette by Colette Hayman & Sentiens. You will see that I clearly have a love for Monochrome at the moment with what I have chosen.
As I mentioned above, I have items from a few brands that I have my eye on. Here they are as follows. Perhaps you like some of them too, and decide to add them to your own wish list or just get them for yourself as a treat, Now I know some of these items are a little pricey and the chances of me getting any of them as gifts a little slim, but I honestly don’t care, a girl can dream I guess can’t she?. I really pretty fussy about the quality of things that I buy or own and so I do admit my tastes are a little expensive at times.
The Skin Creamery Everyday All Over Cream
A few weeks ago I received a sample sachet of the 100% Organic everyday all over cream and fell in love. This stuff is amazing. It just smells so good, and you can use it on both your body and your face. I found it so nourishing and hydrating and it is sweetness to my 40-year-old skin. I have really been struggling with finding skin care that agrees with my skin at this stage of the game for both my face and body and very much prefer to use chemical free skin products where possible. I was also really impressed with the work ethic and customer care from the Owner of the brand Hannah. I enjoyed chatting to her very much about her vision and upcoming products. I am excited for this brand and what the future holds for it.

I am a true sucker for a few things, these being earrings, Handbags and shoes. I first fell in love with the Colette Hayman brand of Jewelry and accessories when I the range in Canal Walk in Cape Town. I also have been known to troll their website very often gawking at all the beautiful things. This Australian brand made its way to our shores a little while back and I for one am extremely glad. There are two pairs of earrings (The 2 stone Drop earrings & these Diamond Triangular Hoop Earrings) I also have my eye on two bags, such as this Black & white Clutch & this Evanna Side Zip Tote. I am in love with monochrome at the moment and this clutch with go so well with quite a few outfits in my wardrobe and this gold bag is perfect for both weekend and office use. It would be a great addition to my wardrobe. These items range from about R100 to R500.
This little baggie would be the perfect solution to all my lost lipstick, liners, glosses and lip balm floating around my handbag. I have another pouch bag but it’s actually not the right thing, and I get more frustrated than anything else. I am also totally in love with the screenprinting that Zana Products does on their products that are all locally made in Cape Town. This little baggie retails at R120.00 and I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
It’s probably widely known that Poetry is my store of choice for gifts for other people but only because I really love all their things and would be head over heels if I was gifted anything from there. Last year I had my eye on a Red wooden elephant decor item and my husband surprised me with it for Christmas 2014. Scored big time brownie points there he did. I also own a few scarves which out of a vast collection of scarves are my absolute favorite. I have selected some Bags, Earrings & scarves that I really do love like the Rosella Multi-striped scarf, the Chanice Printed scarf, the Abello Leather Tote, this Gracen Canvas shopper and also these gorgeous silver moonstone earrings. The products I have selected range between R150 and R1500.
One of the things I haven’t gotten new for myself for a very very long time is a new purse. I adore Mimco, another Australian brand to enter our shores and with similar trends like some of my other favorites Trenery, Country Road & Witchery. I recently saw this Turnlock travel wallet and fell in love. According to my 2016 horoscope, travelling to a far away destination is on the cards and so who am I to question that? I need/want/must have this wallet somehow. This gorgeous black leather wallet with all sorts of places to put things in and a more than gorgeous clip detail goes for R1299 and is available at Woolworths.
I love Yoga and I have pledged to be more authentic to it by practicing it at-least once a day everyday. I have a yoga mat but it is really old and already has a few holes in it. I recently came across this brand of beautifully printed yoga mats and this particular Mind’s eye mat stole my heart. I am already envision the awesome downward dog I will be doing on it. I may not want to move out of the position and stop looking at the mat.

- light weight at just over 1kg

These amazing mats sell for R495 which in my opinion is a small price to pay for a really extra pleasurable yoga experience.
Another thing I have a massive love affair with is candles. Personally I really don’t feel you can ever have enough and having a home full of gorgeous scented candles is just one of those things that really makes me happy. For a long time I didn’t buy any because all my kids at varying ages from crawling to about the age of one thought that any candle I had out was for them to play with. Only recently I started buying nice candles again and while online looking for new ones I came across the very lusted after Yankee Candle range. Let me just pause here and ask you, have you ever seen such a huge selected on good quality, beautifully packaged, long-lasting and generously scented candles in one place?? I saw and smelt them for myself in a decor shop and was never more certain as then of my sheer desire to own a couple of these beauties. I would love to try them all and really have no preference as to which I get first. They are all amazing. These classic range is the ones I chose for my wish list and it comes in three sizes.S,M,L and range in price from R160 to R395 each with 40 to 150 hours of true fragrance enjoyment dependent on the size you take.
Well, there you have it. Now you all know the desires of my material heart. Perhaps there is something on my list that caught your eye too. I really had a lot of fun window shopping for them and putting together this post of my 40th birthday wish list. I’ll let you all know how that turned out for me.
