A Marriage story revisited. {13 years and counting}

Updated post: Yesterday saw the end of Marriage week SA 2016 which I think is a really wonderful idea by the way and so in the spirit of all things marriage and commitment I decided to revisit this old post. I had meant to do this earlier but life got in the way and I didn’t get to it. I originally wrote this post in Feb 2013 when we were going to be celebrating our 10 year anniversary that October and seeing as though we celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary next month, I have been thinking about it a lot, because it still stands out to me as one of the posts I wrote from the deepest space in my heart and that is exactly what this blog was intended for.  So that being said I have decided to spruce it up and put it back out there for you to read. Nothing has really changed and the words I spoke below are the words I would speak today, except that we are heading toward the 15-year mark now.

Original post starts here.

This post is dedicated to my husband. This year I will be married to him for 10 years. We have been through so much in the last 10 years. We share a very close bond and like the saying goes ‘The things that should have torn us apart have only made our relationship stronger”. With all my faults and shortcomings and all the hidden emotions I have I have always known that I can turn to him, even if it doesn’t feel like there is anybody in the world I could talk to, he will always be there to listen and to help with a word of advice or some wisdom.
There is a song by an artist Brandi Carlile called “The Story” I listen to it fairly often since I heard it for the first time on an episode of Grays and then was reminded of it by a friend a while back. It is also on the soundtrack to the movie ‘The Lucky one”. The words of this song impact me deeply as they remind me so much of our relationship and the point of my life I am at. This has been a remarkable 10-year walk and the lines on my face are many but I have someone to share them with and that is what I am most thankful for. So with all the reflecting I am doing lately to get my life back and be in control of my own emotions, grieve, accept and release all that has hampered me from being who I know I am, and I want to say thank you, to my soul mate for being just that.

Click the link below to listen to this beautiful piece of music and read the lyrics, perhaps this is true to your life to. I would like to think I am not the only one that is so lucky.

The Story by Brandi Carlile

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am

But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you

I climbed across the mountaintops
Travel across the ocean blue
I cross over lines and I broke all the rules
And baby I broke them all for you

Oh because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do, I was made for you

You see the smile that’s on my mouth
It’s hiding the words that don’t come out
All of the friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know I’m in this mess

No they don’t know who I really am
And they don’t know what I’ve been through
Like you do, and I was made for you

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am

Oh but these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true, I was made for you
Oh yeah, and it’s true that I was made for you
