We had a My Little Pony Party. {This is how we did it}

Wow, this has been such a whirlwind of a few weeks.  I don’t truly know if I am coming or going.  Besides getting my new online store up and running which you may have already seen, I have also had a 5th birthday party to arrange.  This is rather hectic considering the last post I actually made on this blog was the Minecraft party one I did in March.  Hello!  What’s up with that? Well, I happen to like arranging my kids birthday parties and so I don’t mind too much that it’s all I have been posting about lately. My youngest daughter turned 5 at the end of May… Stop, yes 5!  I actually can’t deal with how fast they are all growing up. Now, she is a conflicted kid because she has a love for both the girly stuff and also is a massive die-hard fan of the Paw Patrol and Blaze and the Moster machines scene.  So you can very well imagine what a hard time we had deciding what party theme she wanted.  We grappled with it for some time and eventually settled on a My Little Pony party because who doesn’t love ponies and who doesn’t love to share the love of the ponies with friends?  Well, they say Friendship is Magic and so it is.

My daughter Mila doesn’t have a very most favorite pony but she does love Rainbow dash and also is very fond of Princess Celestia (I kinda like that one myself) Recently she also started to grow rather fond of Rarity.  So we had to settle on one pony for the theme of the party and Rainbow Dash it was.  We had a Rainbow Dash Rainbow cake and also a large printed Rainbow Dash poster with which we played “pin the tail on Rainbow Dash”  Oh my gosh, I wish you could have seen the kids eyes when we cut that cake open.

So do you want to know how we created the ultimate My Little Pony party at our home? stick around and I will give you the low down.  It was such a hit and I am sure that many moms with girls who love the ponies as much will be thrilled with some ideas for their own party.

Mila doesn’t go to school yet so she didn’t have a big party.  We had 7 in total so it made doing it all on one long table nice and easy. We used a long trestle table and covered it with a pretty light pink table cloth.  To make it extra pretty, I used a lace fabric tablecloth of my own under it and the lace stuck out at the bottom edge. We had party plates, serviettes & plastic cups & Party hats all in the branded My Little Pony theme.  You can get these anywhere online and at some novelty party stores.

We also got some plastic utensils in Purple & Blue which we tied with blue ribbon for each guests setting. I had large tall glass jugs with Cream Soda flavored cool drink in them on the table and I hauled out my trusty cupcake stand for the pre-iced Cupcakes I had made the night before.  We had planned for some cupcake decorating fun but I thought it best to leave the icing to me and just put out a selection of amazing cupcake bling for the little artists to get stuck in with.

For party treats we which we filled white plastic buckets with a selection of sweets & some chips. Ok, I have to tell you that I have been collecting these buckets for months now.  I buy my Peanut Butter in these Kilogram buckets and so I saved them for the party.  You can buy new buckets if you would like but I really was stoked at the fact that I had managed to collect exactly enough.  You could do paper bags if you prefer but we really liked the look that the buckets

We also tied some handy blue ribbon to finish it off.  What I like about the buckets is they stay whole and kids are more inclined to take them home, rather than leave you with one more thing to clean up.

My little Pony party

I was trying to keep the theme to the colors Pink, green, lilac, and Blue and I think I pulled it off pretty well.  We had a mix of metallic balloons hanging alongside this awesome My Little Pony party bunting that I strung along a window in our living room.  We also had the Rainbow Dash poster up on an opposite wall. At each table setting I had a plate stacked with a Bucket & Party hat and alongside it I had a printed My Little Pony coloring sheet rolled and tied with the blue ribbon.  I had some coloring crayons for the kids on the table too and so they really enjoyed coloring their pony pictures.  I had planned on having a coloring competition but we ran out of time. This is a really fun and easy plus cheap activity to do at your party.  All you need to do is supply crayons and print the Black & white pages.  Kids love to color so it is always a win.

I elected not to put too many other treats on the table because the cake was massive and the party buckets were filled with treats.  I ended up just putting some chips in a bowl and a few bowls of cookies and they kids had more than enough.

To entertain the kids further I ended up finding some episodes of My Little Pony to watch and had that playing on the tv while they were all milling around enjoying their treats and after they had finished decorating their cupcakes.

All in all, it was an amazing party.  Mila was so over the moon with all the goodies and especially the cake which we ordered from The Dainty Parfait in Somerset West. Bronwyn is actually an old friend. She used to teach my son when she owned her own preschool but has since closed her school and is doing these amazing cakes while teaching and Aupairing locally. Go and check out her Instagram and contact her for your next cake if you are in Cape Town.  She had been lusting after a rainbow cake for months and we surprised her with one.  She couldn’t stop looking at it and this is a picture of her enjoying her first bite.  The expression says it all.

In Mila’s words, this party was her “Best day ever” and she had a fantastic time.  I hope that some of this picture give you some great ideas to try and your daughter’s My little Pony party.  Any #MyLittlePony fan would just love it.

Disclaimer: The good people at Hasbro toys heard earlier in the year that Mila was having a birthday and although I didn’t receive any money for this post they did supply us with some of the party goodies.  All thoughts and all the feels are our own.  We love My little Pony in our house.  Who wouldn’t?
